New Teddy Roosevelt Turf

"This arm ready to throw about 2,000 yards next fall?
We're dependin' on you boys.
Let me tell you what.
You're looking good!
Thirteen starters coming back, 22 lettermen.
Lookin' tough."

Oh, and coach:

I might play ball, but I will NEVER sign this.

i was so thrilled to see the new, football-ready turf-i pulled over and thanked the workers. it was all i could do to keep from running a middle aged post pattern, waiting for a perfectly thrown pass to reach me!

I just had a vivid dream on Saturday that I went back to college and walked-on at Baylor. This is not as crazy as it sounds since it seems like Baylor actively recruits 37 year old smokers -- given their record for the last 10 years. In the dream I got in trouble for using stick-em (Fred Biletnikoff-style) and had to ride the pine. It's depressing when you're a bench warmer in your own football dreams. I think after that I reverted to my normal pirate/race car driver dreams.

Has anyone ever got to a game at Roosevelt? I wanted to go last year when Dunbar was there w/ Benn and Austin, but missed it for some reason.

Also, has anyone ever gone to a game over at Catholic? It's D3, but still pretty cool that we have college football (one of the best things about America, right up there with bacon, beer, and the internet) about 5 minutes from our houses.

Yeah, I would like to start going to college games. But I also like the idea of seeing rising stars play at a local high school. We'll have to see how the schools are doing this year. Maybe someone will post a schedule.

Scheduled home games coming up for T. Roosevelt per Washington Post:

If the new field is ready maybe they will play there this Friday.

One thing I like about Roosevelt is that they would let (or were those people just breaking in?) joggers use that track...it's nice for those times when maybe you don't feel like jogging too far from home.

I've also seen soccer games being played there. I hope both the adults and the kids respect the field and it doesn't turn into a pitted, rocky mess. Does anyone know if that's real grass? It seems outrageously green.

I'm pretty sure its field turf, not natural grass. Its virtually cost-free to maintain, which is why it is being used so often these days. Unfortunately, football needs to be played on real grass, but given dcps's budget issues, a new surface of any sort should be cheered.

The gates used to be open so that joggers could use the track in the evenings and on weekends. I went by the track this weekend and it was all locked up, though. I'm not sure if this was because construction is not complete or if the new policy will be no community use of the facilities. I really hope it's not the latter...
