Beloved Warehouse Theater to Open in Columbian Heights, Hopefully!

Breaking news: a well placed tipster has just informed me that the recently closed Warehouse Theater is currently in negotiations to open up in a new spot in Columbia Heights. For those of you who are excited about the new Red Rocks Pizzeria, get ready to get a little more excited: The prime spot across the street in the old supermarket on 11th and Park Road is set to become the new home of Warehouse Theater. Additionally I hear the new headquarters of Rock the Vote are also in negotiations to open up in that location. Rumors, rumors but hopefully it is true. Great news for Petworth and Columbia Heights! Let's hope the negotiations go well...

Excellent news! On CH News forum Alaaro mentions that there would also be a small cafe in the place.

We can all email the owners, their email is on the website:

Producing director Paul Ruppert's email is:

Who is your source? The old supermarket at 11th and Park is slated to become condos and has gone through the ANC. Its set for construction to begin in October.

PoP is right. An LOI has been signed w/ Warehouse and the lease is being prepared right now. Apparently, Warehouse will take roughly 6,000 sf (the entire downstairs space). The upstairs will still be built but I am not sure what it will be (maybe office, maybe residential). The entire project should commence as soon as the lease is signed and will take roughly 8-9 months (look for a May/June 2008 opening). This is truly HUGE for 11th Street. W/out saying too much look for some other very positive deals soon...

Funny, just last night I heard the same bombshell over a beer at Temperance Hall, by someone who had been indirectly close to (but not part of) the deal process. I was debating whether to publish on Petworth News this morning when I saw it here! My source asked to stay unnamed, but the details jibe with PoP's. It does sound like this will happen.

Well, apparently the Theater part is not coming to this particular location at least.
